Bagels free of HFCS Empty
PostSubject: Bagels free of HFCS   Bagels free of HFCS Icon_minitimeFri Aug 08, 2008 8:18 am

Does anyone know of any Bagel stores that don't use HFCS? I know einstein uses it, but I'm hoping to find a place that doesn't. We have bagels at work once a week and I'm trying to encourage them to find a place that doesn't use the stuff. I have to avoid them usually because of my corn allergy. (The corn meal on the bottom isn't enough to set off my allergies, but HFCS is evil.)

Do you have a Jewish bakery nearby? There is an excellent one in Denver, sadly 30 miles from where I live, and all their products (bagels, hot dog buns, etc.) are corn free.

I'm not Jewish, so I can't explain Kosher requirements, but I have found most Kosher foods are corn free. I love the mom and pop bakeries,...they are so accommodating, and I just love supporting a small business.

Good luck finding an alternative!

Actually, it's "kosher for passover" that's corn free. I've found some regular kosher foods that do contain corn. But to be certified kosher for passover, the food can't even been made on the same equipment as food containing corn, so that's why many kosher foods just avoid corn altogether. (I'm not Jewish, just allergic to corn.)

At any rate, back on topic, Panera has some corn-free bagels. I'm not sure about their cream cheese though.

Thanks for the information. I guess that makes sense since Passover Coke has cane sugar.

I have started to ask for ingredient lists everywhere we go. early on I assumed that bagels were free from HFCS but, after eating at noah's bagels my DD had a reaction so I checked and everyone of their bagel have it. The only thing in the place that doesn't have it is the blueberry muffins but they are so full of sugar so we'll pass on that.
