When I eat out I try first to avoid trans-fats. Then I worry about HFCS.
Which pretty much rules out fried anything, since resturants use that semi-solid sludge for their deep fryers. I suspect unless you eat in a chain place that publishes the nutritional values of their items it is still a cr*pshoot.
I was always too busy or lazy (pick one) to bring my lunch every day, but lately I have been doing much better. I read the book "In Defense of Food", and it gives a simple formula for eating:
Eat food, not too much, mostly plants. Especially leaves. Of course there was a whole chapter defining what food is. You can remove most processed edibles from your food list. What a great book.
