In the summer, my kids like to eat snow cones. I got one of those ice shaving snow cone machines on clearance in the fall a few years ago. Those syrups they sell next to the machines are not only pricey, but they have HFCS in them. I know it's not health food, but this homemade version is cheaper and HFCS free:
Snow Cone Syrup
2 cups sugar
1 1/4 cup water
1 pkg. unsweetened drink mix
Bring sugar and water to a boil. Remove from heat, then stir in drink mix. Cover and chill until ready to serve. Yield: 2 1/2 cups.
